Rugby World Cup 2015 kick off tournament gets go ahead

Rugby World Cup 2015 kickoff tournament gets the go ahead

A kickoff event for the RWC 2015 is being organised in the West Country of the UK, and is to be staged on the historic Plymouth Hoe in South West Devon. The Plymouth Hoe is the natural heart of the City of Plymouth, with stunning views of one of the most perfect natural harbours in the world will make this a setting second to none.

The event will take the format of a rugby tournament spanning 3 weeks of the summer of 2015, bringing together amateur, professional and armed services’ teams in a series of 10’s tournaments, to be played on sand pitches created for the event. The event has the support of the local Members of Parliament, the Lord Mayor of Plymouth Vivien Pengelly and the leader of the Council Tudor Evans along with Councillor Peter Smith, and is being scheduled for July and early August 2015. Discussions are also underway with Volleyball England to include a national beach volley competition.

The format for the event will take on various categories: a junior competition of 10’s touch rugby, a Colts (Under 17 and 18’s) competition of 10’s contact rugby, ladies 10’s and an Under 24’s 10’s competitions of contact rugby. Several of the South West’s professional clubs have shown an interest in the event, and the organisers hope that there will be an additional competition between these sides.  This version of the game does incorporate full contact so it isn’t for the faint-hearted, and with fewer players on the pitch there is much more space for players to run into, with breathtaking results. With killer passes and big hits 10’s rugby is fast and furious, and a fabulous spectator sport, providing a spectacular introduction to rugby and the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

To make this a real celebration of sport and attract as many as possible to the Hoe over this period the organisers plan to add additional entertainment to the event, in particular evening entertainment and would be happy to hear any suggestions. With the Hoe’s proximity to the Barbican with its theatres, restaurants, bars and night-life this is an event not to be missed, and will become the holiday destination of the summer of 2015.
